Boost The Appearance of Your Smile
Do you wish you could change the look of your chipped or uneven teeth? Are you bothered by your discolored teeth or wish you could fill the gaps in your smile? These dental issues can be effectively solved using porcelain dental veneers. Veneers are made of wafer-thin porcelain and are cemented to the front of your teeth to improve their appearance — they can change the color, shape, size, or length of your teeth.
Patients with the following conditions are good candidates for this procedure:
- Stained or discolored teeth that teeth whitening procedures can’t correct
- Worn down, chipped or broken teeth
- Uneven or misshapen teeth
- Gaps between teeth that patient would prefer closed
The Veneer Process
Once you and your doctor have decided that veneers are an optimal choice to improve the aesthetics of your smile, your teeth will be prepared for the veneer. First, your doctor will trim a very small amount of enamel off of the tooth. Next, an impression will be made of the tooth. The impression is used to make the veneer, and is sent to a lab to be fabricated. In the meantime, you will be provided with a temporary veneer if necessary.
Next, the dentist will trim and shape the veneer to ensure a proper fit before it is bonded permanently to the tooth. A dental cement is used to adhere the veneer to your tooth. A special light is then used to activate the chemicals in the bonding material, causing it to harden quickly. Any final adjustments are made at this time.
Besides providing a natural tooth appearance, dental veneers are also beneficial for the following reasons:
- Porcelain veneers are stain resistant
- Gum tissue is not irritated by the porcelain
- The color of the veneer can be customized to blend in with the rest of your teeth
