Healthy. Beautiful. Confident.
Your Questions
Your questions answered! The following are common questions others have asked us about dentistry and oral health issues. If you have any other questions you don’t see here, please feel free to call! Our team looks forward to hearing from you.
Q: Do you accept new patient referrals?
A: Yes. Over the years patients have given us the compliment of referring family and friends to our practice. Our reputation for excellent dental care depends on two things: our good work and your beautiful smile. Your confidence in our care motivates us to continue to strive for excellence. Thank you for your referrals. Your trust and support are greatly appreciated.
Q: Crowns, veneers, on-lays, inlays and partials; where can I learn more about these procedures?
A: In addition to the information on the Web site, our team members would love to share more information with you to answer any questions you have. If you don’t find the information you are looking for on this Web site, please contact our office and a team member will happily assist you.
Q: I want my front teeth to look better, but I do not want to wear braces. What would you recommend?
A: There are a number of ways to improve the look of your front teeth without the use of unsightly, metal braces. For slightly crooked or unevenly worn teeth, a bit of reshaping and the addition of porcelain veneers may be sufficient to give your smile a bright, uniform look. Aesthetic Smile Design would be happy to talk with you further about which option best suits your individual situation.
Q: What is periodontal disease?
A. Periodontal disease (also called gum disease or gingivitis) refers to the infection of the supportive tissues of the mouth due to toxic bacteria found in plaque. Many individuals suffer from some degree of gum disease, and if left untreated, gum disease can cause tooth loss, break down of the soft tissue in the mouth and jaw and other significant health problems. Your dentist at Aesthetic Smile Design assesses and diagnoses your periodontal health and if needed, advises the appropriate therapy to restore gums and supportive tissues. Then, our specially trained team administers advanced periodontal therapy.
Q: Sometimes when I chew I get a sharp pain. What can I do to correct this?
A. Most dental pain brought on by chewing is caused by a fracture, or crack, in the tooth. The pain can be corrected by placing an inlay/onlay, a porcelain crown or more advanced treatment. You want to correct the pain as soon as possible to prevent further damage to the tooth. Contact us today to schedule a visit.
Q: How does Dr. Edeer keep up to date on all of the current techniques and materials?
A: Dr. Edeer is highly committed to maintaining a state-of-the-art practice. He spends considerable time investing in ongoing education, keeping himself current on the latest advances in the industry and attending hands-on courses to learn specific restorative and cosmetic techniques. He is also a current and active member of numerous dental organizations enabling him to stay up-to-date with the latest advances in the specialized aspects of oral health procedures. In addition to keeping up with his own ongoing education, Dr. Edeer ensures that his team stays well versed in the latest techniques required for carrying out their specific roles.
Q: How long am I going to be numb after a procedure?
A: Usually, it takes between 3-5 hours for your numbness to wear off. If you have concerns about persistent numbness, please contact us to evaluate your situation.
Q: How long do I have to wait after my fillings to eat?
A: Wait at least one hour. If you can, you should wait until the numbness goes away; otherwise eat soft foods to ensure you don't chew on your cheek.
Q: Why is an oral cancer exam included in my dental exam?
A: Every time you come into our office for a regular dental check up, you are examined for oral cancer. Oral cancer is a very fast growing, aggressive cancer. When detected early, the survival rate for oral cancer ranges between 80-90%. Unfortunately, close to 70% of oral cancer is discovered as late stage 3 and 4.
Facts about oral cancer:
- We know that oral cancer kills more people than skin cancer and cervical cancer.
- Approximately 30,000 cases of oral cancer are diagnosed each year.
- Five-year survival rate is less than 18%.
- Early detection increases survival rate to 80%.
Aesthetic Smile Design is committed to seeing those numbers drop through early detection. We will be doing an intra-oral and extra-oral exam each time you come to our office for a hygiene appointment.
Q: What different payment options do you provide?
A: We accept cash, personal checks and credit cards including Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. Your insurance plan co-pay is due at the time of your visit, and you are responsible for the amount not covered by your insurance. However, we want you to receive all the dental care you need, so we also offer third party financing. If you desire to apply for this service, please contact us prior to your treatment, and we will assist you as needed.
Q: I want and need a lot of dental work, but I’m afraid I can’t afford it. Do you offer monthly payment plans?
A. Yes, Aesthetic Smile Design offers monthly payment plans with our third-party financial partner. We provide a variety of ways for you to pay for your treatment, so that it fits comfortably into your personal or family financial goals. Our team works with you to create the solution that accommodates you and gives you the beautiful, healthy smile you have always desired.
